A large waist size and a high body mass index (BMI) are associated with half of all fatal cardio-vascular diseases (CVDs) and quarter of all non-fatal CVDs.

These shocking findings were announced after a study of more than 20,000 Dutch men and women, between the ages of 20 and 65. The outcomes show that monitoring waist size and BMI can help predict the risk of fatal illnesses – and that avoiding being overweight or obese can be key to long-term health.

Obesity surgery specialists at Gastric Band Info are now anticipating a rise in enquiries into weight loss surgery as a result.

“We have seen increased interest in obesity surgery over the past few years and this research is bound to drive enquiries up still further,” said a spokesman.

Gastric bands, gastric balloons and gastric bypass procedures can all be equally effective in helping people lose weight – the trick is to speak to a specialist and find out what’s best for you.”

Gastric balloons are a non-surgical weight loss procedure and are especially effective in people who are mildly obese (a BMI of between 25 and 35).

A gastric band, which restricts the size of the stomach to reduce the amount of food eaten, can be ideal for people whose BMI is above 35.

Meanwhile, a gastric bypass procedure would typically be used to treat morbidly obese patients, to avert the health problems that can result from the condition.

Check out your BMI and chat to a Gastric Band Info specialist to see if obesity surgery could be right for you.
